Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is going to conduct the Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE) on 16 April 2023 which gives unmarried aspirants a chance to join the Indian Armed Forces. The notification for the examination was released on 21 December 2022.

The candidates will have to appear for an OMR test. The CDS Admit Card will be released on the official website on 26 March 2023 (Provisional). Candidates can download the admit card by just entering the registration number and OTP.

The candidates started registering to appear in the examination on 21 December 2022 onwards. The candidates’ applications were accepted till 12 January 2023.

For women candidates only OTA Short Service Commission is available. As this exam is a national-level examination, more than 6 lakh candidates have applied from all over the country. To accommodate all the aspirants, UPSC has built approx 80 centres in the country.

Selection process

To join the Indian Armed Forces is not an easy task. Aspirants will have to go through a very scrutinized procedure. The candidates will have to go through three-level phases.

• Written examination
• SSB
• Medical Examination

The candidates first have to clear the written examination. Then the shortlisted candidates will have to appear in the Services Selection Board (SSB). This is a five-day selection process. On the first day candidates will have to go through a screening test a.k.a. PP& DT. The candidates who were selected will stay at the SSB centre for the rest of the days where they will be scrutinized on every aspect.

On the last day either candidates are conference out or get recommended. The recommended candidates will have to go through a medical examination for approximately 10 days, candidates here either get selected or given a TR or a PR based on the criteria published. In the end, a merit list will be published for the selected candidates who can the services.

CDS Exam Pattern

There will be two types of paper patterns depending on the type of preference candidates have chosen. There will be a negative marking for every wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted.

For the candidates who have selected Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy or Indian Air Force as their first choice the paper pattern is given below.

How to download CDS Admit Card?

1. Visit the official website of UPSC @ upsc.gov.in.
2. On the homepage, click on the Admit Cards tab.
3. Click on it and select E- Admit Cards for various examinations.
4. Click on the CDSE-I Admit Card.
5. Fill in your registration number and password.
6. Download your CDS Admit Card and take a printout.
